Christmas Eve

Tonight we are celebrating Christmas Eve! We wrote a letter to Santa, explaining our situation, that we wont be home for Christmas, and he agreed to come this weekend! What a great jolly old man!
So we have been busy making food for the reindeer (dry oatmeal with sprinkles!) to sprinkle in the grass, as well as a batch of cupcakes for Baby Jesus' birthday! After Ken gets home from work and his own last minute shopping, we are going to bake sugar cookies, get snuggled into our pajamas, and watch Christmas movies! I think I am (almost!) as excited as the kids!

So... a few funny, or at least noteworthy, stories as of lately... mostly from the mouth of a certain adorable 6 year old!

~earlier this week we got our fish tank set up and got a couple of new fish to join our family. After getting them home and settled into their new tank, Joey decided he'd like to name one Doc. I'm still not so sure where this came from, but whatever. Doc it is. A little later, I was in the bedroom on the computer, and Kayla was talking to her mom on the phone in the other room. I nearly fell out of my chair when I heard something along the lines of "and we got new fish tonight, and guess what! Joey named the black one Dick!" I know her mom thought she must have heard her wrong, because she repeated the story 2 or 3 more times. All the while I was yelling from the bedroom, "Its Doc! DOC!"

~Yesterday I sat the kids down and read them the story of Christmas. Of Mary and Joseph's ride to Bethlehem and Jesus being born in a manger. I read it every year, but I think this year it kind of stuck with Kayla. We talked about why we get presents, that its Jesus' birthday, but we get presents, and we give them to people to show them how special they are, just as Jesus received them from the 3 Wisemen because he was so special, etc etc. "Oh I thought it just had to do with the Christmas tree," she said. LOL! But I'm glad we are on the same page now! Afterwards, I was showing them the nativity we have and explaining each of the characters and their role in the story. We are slowly collecting the Willow Tree set, so it was basic. The manger, Joseph, Mary, Jesus, and a few animals. "We should really have the camel," Kayla said. "Since that's how they got there." She's sooo right. So I found a shepherd and stable animal set at Hallmark last night for 40% off! Score!

Well I guess that's all for now! Hope you enjoy the Christmas pictures! More are on their way!
