Lately it seems like no matter how hard I try to spend less money, my grocery bill has gotten bigger and bigger... and then with Kayla home for the next 3 weeks, I was sure it was going to be crazy this week. I mean, its not that she eats THAT much, and certainly no more than anyone else, but its just more quantity.
I was pleasantly surprised when I checked out at Meijer...I swear I bought just as much as I always do, but I spent almost 1/2 as much! Of course, I shouldnt have been too surprised, I did afterall spend an hour last night with my piles of coupons spread across the kitchen table, as I went through the ad and planned our week accordingly with what we already have in our freezer, what was on sale, what I had coupons for, and the best parts...what was on sale AND I had coupons for.
I just feel like my cupboards, freezer, and fridge are full, and my checkbook isnt completely empty. Such a nice feeling!
So...what did I get?
I am sure I am going to forget a few things, but here goes.... 9 pounds of apples, salad mix, artichokes (from produce, not canned), 6 things of frozen veggies, big jar of peanut butter, pretzels, string cheese, deli ham, deli turkey, deli sliced cheese, corned beef brisket, chicken breasts, hot dogs, tilapia filets, fish sticks, tuna fish, spagetti sauce, 10 yogurts, eggs, 2 Welch's juice, 2 Juicy Juice, cake mix, frosting, fiber one bars, bread, hamburger buns, zucchini, mushrooms, cabbage, green beans, and thats all I can remember right now. And I spent $80!
Our dinner menu this week looks a little like this...
Monday... turkey burgers and green beans
Tuesday... pork and mushroom rice
Wednesday... corned beef, cabbage, and carrots
Thursday... spagetti with turkey burger, zucchini and mushrooms
Friday... fish filets with green beans and corn
Saturday... we are celebrating Kayla's birthday with family so we will probably order out. Not sure yet :)
Anyway, I just loooooove looking for deals and saving money. I'm a nerd. I just dont think its as difficult as people think to eat healthy on a budget. Off to make lunch...

I sooo need to do this. I know what you mean - just adding Ella upped our grocery bill considerably. And she's only 1! :) You've inspired me to clip some coupons this week. Mmm, and your meals sounds deeelicious.
Wow!! All that for $80?! I wish! Every once and a while I can get all that for cheaper but sheesh! Good job!! I think I need to check flyers and clip coupons myself!
